This is going to be quite short, because I want the main focus to be on her style and I know if given too many characters, and too much time I will waffle on about how much I love and admire the late and great Amy Winehouse.
My infatuation with Amy Winehouse started like everyone else's, when she released 'Rehab', but it didn't escalate until I saw her at Glastonbury in 2008. After that she become a real inspiration to my style, I started wearing ballet pumps and big earring, everyday I wear winged eyeliner, that I was originally inspired by her to do. She gave rockabilly its long awaited come back, with her corsets, headbands and high hair, but with a twist. She made it edgier, took it away from the prim proper image of the 1950's and brought it into the grungy scene of Camden town. She was a juxtaposition, a sleek style, marred by grim and a big beehive with a jazz voice, it shouldn't work, but she made it her own.
I am aware that she isn't exactly a role model and she hasn't got a refined style, but she is so iconic you cant help but be inspired by her, and her story. The death of Amy Winehouse hit me hard. I was a huge fan of her music and of her, so when i found out she had passed away I was distraught. She had such a battle with drugs, which makes her death all the more tragic because at the time of her death she was clean, even thinking about settling down. She will always be one of my favourite songstress' of all time. Not only did she leave a mark on the music industry that will be remembered for years to come, but she also left her stamp on fashion. She was the inspiration behind John Paul Gautier s/s12 haute couture collection (which I adored and thought was the perfect tribute to her, no matter what others may say) and her partnership with Fred Perry has continued beyond the grave as the label have released the collection she was working on before her death, and it hasn't disappointed.
Love you Amy
